One of the many perks of an international exchange program, aside from the great. food, is academics! Curriculum is focused on local business cases pertaining to the region of your program.

I took three classes (12 credits):

MKT3702B: Consumer Behavior

FIN3703B: Financial Markets

FIN3701A: Corporate Finance

Students refer to classes as "modules." Each module that I took had group presentations; and while my schedule says "No exams," finance classes/modules tend to have midterms and finals in addition to presentations.

Observations:

  • Groups composed of Singaporeans tend to hots group meetings later in the day (10:00PM - 2:00AM) - from my experience.

  • Finance modules are the only business-related modules to have tests AND presentations - requiring more time to dedicate for these mods.

  • Classes end thirty minutes before the sscheduled end time to allow students adaquate time to transit to their next class.

Below are the case studies that my team and I worked on:

Project #BuildBridgesNotWalls - focues on a contemporary topic in Singapore. Migrant workers from nearby countries go to Singapore to work in manual infrastructure-related jobs. Lack of worker protections, low compensation and siloed nature with Singaporean locals were the issues that were covered. The scope of the project was to bring to light these issues by acting as an agency, hired by the Ministry of Manpower, to raise the public's awareness.

Private Credit - what is private credit and its application to Singapore.

Link RIETS: Rights Issue and Impact on Shareholders - a Hong Kongl real estate investment trust that has diversified its holdings by aquiring malls, carparks and office spaces in Singapore. Our team dived into how it's recent rights issue affected the company's shareprice and used technical and fundamental analyssis to. justify selling Link RIET stock because of the rights issue and the recent Chinese real estate bubble pop.

You may also be wondering how I've been able to visit other countries with my "busy" schedule. Below is the NUS academic calendar - showing two recess weeks - given to students the opportunity to study before finals (or go to Vietnam for vacation). In addition to the reading weeks, there is an examination period. Business modules conclude prior to the examination period - providing you the opportunity to explore more of Singapore or abroad!
