There are many scholarship opportunities that can lower expenses for taking part in a study abroad program. In fact, going abroad for a semester was more cost effective than a semester at UH Manoa - in my situation. Below are great resources worth exploring.
The Freeman and/or Johnson scholarship is awarded to Shidler College of Business (including TIM) students who aspire to study abroad.
UH-wide scholarships that are awarded by various departments and organizations. By submitting one business department application, you will be considered for over fifty scholarship opportunities.
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Must display financial need.
Financial need based scholarship awarded to students who study in the following countries: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam. A multi-country program is eligible only if the applicant will spend at least 8 weeks in one of the countries stated above and will have intensive language study during that period.
